Light-induced emergent phenomena in 2D materials and topological materials

چکیده

Light-matter interaction in 2D and topological materials provides a fascinating control knob for inducing emergent, non-equilibrium properties achieving new functionalities the ultrafast time scale (from fs to ps). Over past decade, intriguing light-induced phenomena, e.g., Bloch-Floquet states photo-induced phase transitions, have been reported experimentally, but many still await experimental realization. In this Review, we discuss recent progress on which light field could act as time-periodic drive Floquet states, induce structural transitions quantum materials, couple with spin various pseudospins, nonlinear optical responses that are affected by geometric phase. Perspectives opportunities of proposed phenomena well open challenges also discussed.

Mini-symposium C3 Enhanced Spin-Orbit Coupling and Emergent Topological Phenomena in Graphene and Related Materials

We focus on describing the topological Weyl semimetal, this state is a three-dimensional analog of graphene with linearly dispersing excitations and provides a condensed-matter realization of Weyl fermions that obeys a two-component Dirac equation. It also exhibits remarkable topological properties manifested by surface states in the form of Fermi arcs, which are impossible to realize in purely...

Engineering light outcoupling in 2D materials.

When light is incident on 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), it engages in multiple reflections within underlying substrates, producing interferences that lead to enhancement or attenuation of the incoming and outgoing strength of light. Here, we report a simple method to engineer the light outcoupling in semiconducting TMDCs by modulating their dielectric surroundings. We show that b...

Emergent Patterning Phenomena in 2D Cellular Automata

This article discusses mechanisms of pattern formation in 2D, self-replicating cellular automata (CAs). In particular, we present mechanisms for structure replication that provide insight into analogous processes in the biological world. After examining self-replicating structures and the way they reproduce, we consider their fractal properties and scale invariance. We explore the space of all ...

Topological Mesoporous 111 Materials

Major advances in the field of ordered mesoporous materials have been achieved in topological structure definition at the meso phase, and macroscale levels (shape and morphology) using molecular control during mesoporous materials synthesis. Examples include the use of block copolymers for the preparation of mesoporous materials with large pore sizes (> 30 nm), the formation of mesoporous silic...
